This series of videos is for those doll artists who have completed the Silicone Magic basic course, or who are already making silicone baby dolls using basic glove mould techniques and would like to expand your mould making, casting and sculpting skills.
The courses included in this course are:
Making a two-part mould using several different methods:
- Using a clay wall to make a two-part mould
- Using plasti-shim to make a two-part mould
- Making a two-part block, or box mould
Cleaning, seaming, invisibly repairing and prepping the cast doll:
- Invisible repairs to seams, air bubbles, and general flaws in your cast doll
- transplanting a head, hand or foot with secure adhesion and invisible mending
- changing gender of silicone baby
- making a basic tongue
Making advanced adjustments to your mould:
- removing unwanted 'creases' in the inside of the mould due to slight cracks in the original clay sculpt being replicated in the cast
- repairing tears and rips in the mould
- adding a sculpted inner mouth (opening mouth with, gums, tongue, uvula) to the mould of a closed mouth baby
- adding eye sockets to the mould of an open eye baby for easy insertion of eyes in cast doll
Making a hard silicone replica master of your sculpt:
- Casting a replica doll in a hard silicone for future re-moulding of your doll
Adding flocking to your pour silicone to give different tints and depth to flesh tones
Different softnesses of silicone
- Demonstration of different softnesses of silicone and their uses in doll making
- Using a tactile mutator / deadener (eg slacker) to get different softnesses to your silicone - including how to work out percentages for adding tactile mutator
- The effect of different solvents and liquids with your silicone for thinning, softening, prepping, cleaning, thickening etc
Different sized baby dolls, and making fantasy fae babies
- How to work out the size of different aged babies including preemies, toddlers and pre-school children including measurements and proportion guide.
- How to make elf ears, and making a baby face extra cute for making fantasy babies and fae children by exaggerating features and proportions.
Making partial silicone baby dolls
- Different types of partial silicones, types of cloth bodies, sculpting a limb or head for a cloth body or cuddle baby.
- Making a flange for a doll in silicone
- Tips on pouring heads and limbs for cuddle baby or partial silicone with cloth body, making a hard silicone flange for the body tie to grab hold of without stretching the silicone
Silicone doll armatures
- Adding a full body armature to your silicone doll
- Adding arms-only armatures and legs-only armatures
Airbrushing using silicone paint
- Mixing silicone paint for airbrush use, taking airbrush apart and getting to know it, cleaning the airbrush
Tips on running your silicone doll business as a professional
- Keeping records and registering as a sole trader (or business)
- UK laws about tax, VAT etc made simple.
